Official Opening of Shabra Post Consumer Plastic Bottle Recycling Plant on 19 February 2008 .

The Shabra Team were proud to have Mr. Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment officially open their new state of the art post consumer recycling plant at their site in Castleblayney.

The new €3.7million plant is located in the purpose built  2,000-sq. metre extension to Shabra's existing premises is used for washing and reprocessing of used plastic bottles (known as post consumer bottles) and is be the first and only plant in Ireland involved in this activity. Housed in the extension are new machines that were custom built by Shabra's expert technical management staff to the design of the company's research & development team. These specialised machines wash used post consumer bottles and convert them into PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate or Polyester) flake and HDPE (High Density Polythene) pellets.

By using Shabra's recycling service, Irish companies will also reduce their carbon footprint by eliminating the need to export post consumer bottles for recycling. Irish post consumer bottles are currently transported to Europe or even Asia for recycling.   This expansion will create another 35 jobs in the next two years. The jobs will include highly skilled, graduate, semi skilled and operators, drivers and administrative staff.

In his speech to the Shabra team and guests at the opening, the Minister stated "Companies like Shabra Plastics and Packaging Ltd represent a new breed of dynamic firms that base their success on customer service excellence. They are a pointer towards the continuing success of Irish business in the 21st century".
